This undertaking saw Highlands Capital Management donate $ 1 million to build a state of the art Hippo Outpost. The donation facilitated a building of the Hippo Hut which serves as a space to make educational displays and private events.

The Dallas Zoo in 2001 lost an old hippo named Papa and as a result, decided to eliminate the hippo habitat. With the passing of the hippo, the zoo decided it was best to do away with the habitat until a suitable one was built. To build a habitat for the hippos outside their natural habitat is an extensive and costly affair and that is why James Dondero’s donation of $1 million was very crucial at facilitating the construction.
